After the resignation of Umesh Patwal, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had handed the responsibility of the national cricket team to Nepal’s Jagat Tamata. Patwal had submitted the resignation letter to the ICC prior to the tri-series.
Tamata will be handling the team until the CAN appoints another full time coach according to the CAN Secretary Ashoknath Pyakurel. Patwal’s resignation will be approved within few days and CAN will look for the alternative very soon, said Pyakurel.
Tamata has been very close to the national team, having taken care of the team in several occasions. He had taken the responsibility in the absence of Patwal few months back.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) and National Cricket Council (NSC) had appointed Patwal as the head coach of Nepal around eight months ago, at the time when CAN was under suspension. Patwal resigned from the post with around 4 months left in his contract.
Patwal has been under criticism during his tenure with Nepali team. Nepal were knocked out from the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers from second round and Patwal’s comment had triggered the Nepali fans more. Nepal’s early exit from the qualification campaign was a surprise for most of the fans.
Now, Jagat Tamata will be focusing on forming a strong team for the upcoming ACC Eastern Region which is scheduled from 27th February in Thailand.
